In 2019, Kandis found out she was pregnant with her son Parker. The pregnancy was unexpected, and she didn’t have family or friends in the area to support her. She reached out to Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas for help. Catholic Charities was able to support her in several ways, one of which was providing diapers.
While providing diapers may seem insignificant when compared with all the challenges of raising a child, one in four parents miss work or school because they cannot afford to provide the diapers that daycares require. Kandis said that she has learned during her time at Catholic Charities that family is more than just the people you’re related to because Catholic Charities has become family to her.
